14 Sep Trip to California: Part II, Yosemite
Posted at 20:23h
As I uploaded the pictures for this post, I realized a good reason to update my blog more often. I think I remember the names of most of the places we explored in Yosemite National Park, but perhaps I would remember more clearly if I’d done this sooner! So, Kristina, please feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.
The six of us rented a minivan for our two-day trip to Yosemite. We left San Francisco Sunday, August 17th and when we reached the park, I was blown away by the beauty. It was breathtaking. We went for a hike that afternoon, to the top of gorgeous Vernal Fall. I’m told the falls in Yosemite are very dry at this time of year. The trail we hiked was called the Mist Trail because normally the falls are so torrential that hikers are covered with mist.

Beyond the top of Vernal Fall, we relaxed and waded in a cool lake.

Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to continue on to Nevada Fall, which would have been nice. But this was a great hike and enough to exhaust us (especially since Kristina carried Carter on her back most of the way). We refueled with pizza after the hike and spent the night in a cabin in Curry Village. The next day, Cory and Kristina gave us the ultimate tour of Yosemite. We drove around to a few different areas and walked to some scenic overlooks.

Cory hiked to the top of Half Dome earlier this year!

The lower waterfall is Vernal Fall. You can just see the lake at the top.
The upper waterfall is Nevada Fall.
A family shot with a somewhat happier Camilla. Kristina just kept snapping pictures until she got some good ones!
