The Faith and Grit That Founded Our Nation–with Laura Frantz

This will be the last episode for a while, as I’m taking a five week break! Don’t worry, I’ll be back, and better than ever, on January 28.

Today I’m sharing a conversation with Laura Frantz. I’m sure you can tell from my enthusiasm that I was super excited to chat with this wonderful author about her upcoming book, Tidewater Bride, which releases January 5.

One of the fringe characters in Tidewater Bride is based on Pocohontas, so we discuss how Laura handled the portrayal of Native Americans, as well as her feelings on trying to represent any real person from history when writing fiction. Reading this novel is a wonderful way to get a glimpse of the USA’s infant years. We also talked about our writing processes as Laura prefers to write her first draft by hand.

Thank you for sharing your journey, Laura. I am blown away that you never intended to seek publication. I loved hearing how you were “discovered”. Your reminders about the importance of history to our country in these times is spot on. Thank you, and thank you Alison, for the wonderful interview.
