The Big Announcement

The Big Announcement

So, maybe I’m a dork but I wanted to make my big announcement in a video. I know I say “um” a lot and I need to enunciate better, but hey, it’s good practice, right? I’m going to need it! And just in case you have the wrong idea, this announcement has nothing to do with a baby.

What exciting news, Alison! I know you are very talented, and I can't wait to read your book!! I will be praying for you during this process, that God will give you clarity of mind and purpose. I also will want my book signed, and once, read, will do a little book review on facebook to help with the PR…..Love, Linda Gordon

Ha ha! Thanks, Maria! I'm a little sheepish about the vlog, but I figured I'd go for it. So glad you're interested in the novel. Yay!

Thanks, Angelina! I've been a non-commenter on your blog, too. It takes an extra step when you receive it via email, you know? But I LOVED your last post. I think you sound better than supermom (if she even exists).

Thank you Anna and Donna! The best is God loves to keep me humble. I was so focused on "annunciating" that I spelled "enunciate" incorrectly. Argh! 140 page views and I misspelled a word. 🙂

Congratulations, Alison! I want to read your book. Keep me posted. Believe it or not, I am now writing a tween book about a boy who runs away on the Underground Railroad. An agent was interested in reading the manuscript last summer, but I only had nine chapters done. It is slow going with all the research. My character travels through central PA, not northeast. I now have 25 chapters, but have at least five or six more to go. I'd be interested in knowing how you did your research.

As a huge fan of reading fictional books dated during the civil war time I look forward to your book. If you need someone to read let me know my husband is also great proof reader. Need anything let me know.

Hi Cindy! I've been working on this for many years. The research takes a lot of time. And I've grown and changed as a writer over the years I've spent writing and revising, so I've had to rewrite a lot of it. Your book sounds great! My protagonist is a seventeen-year-old white slaveholder from Georgia who comes north to stay with his aunt and uncle in NEPA. I did a lot of research online. But I also visited the Wyoming Valley Historical Society to read newspapers from 1860 and look at maps, etc. I've read books on local history (and Georgia history) as well. I visited Atlanta–and spent a lot of time in Wilkes-Barre, where the majority of the novel is set. There's a wealth of information about this time period. You could almost go on doing research forever. Keep me posted and let me know how the process is going for you. Feel free to call me at the number on my FB profile, too.

Thanks, Pauline! You, Dem, and Linda have played such a huge part in this whole journey. I know my book would not be what it is without all the feedback from you–and all the growing I've done as part of our group. Love you!
