Inspiration

Okay, I’ve come to the decision that I need to grab brief pockets of time when I have them and write like mad for the duration. A week or so ago, I watched the movie Motherhood. I loved it. I can’t even remember who recommended it or where I heard about it, but it arrived in my mailbox (the real one, not email) via Netflix and so we watched it. I know it received poor reviews. Obviously the critics didn’t like it as much as I did, but it was so raw and honest. Motherhood is tough. I love being a mom. Both of those statements are absolutely true and one does not negate the other. Something else that endeared the movie to me is the fact that Uma Thurman’s character is living my dream life. So weird to say because she’s frustrated and stressed out and can’t find time for creativity. But–she’s a writer living in Manhattan. Her husband loves her. They have a real marriage with the miscommunication and angst, but also love and sacrifice. Their kids could be ours in a few years–well, not exactly, but you know . . . I kind of got infatuated with the movie, the way I am with New York City. Uma Thurman’s character blogged every day, though. She just grabbed little opportunities throughout the day and wrote whatever was on her mind–sometimes without a much-needed filter, but anyway. It inspired me to write more often, even if only for eight minutes.

My friend Demery has turned over a new page (yes, I know it’s a cliche, but I only have eight minutes!) in her writing life. I’m so proud of her. I love her new blog. Readers and writers alike will enjoy it. I plan to follow the prompts as often as I can. And now my eight minutes are up. I have to go clean this filthy house before the kids get up from their naps/quiet times. Ciao!

Helllo Alison – Great post! And thank you for the shout out about my new blog. Thanks also for writing on it yesterday. Glad to read you here or there. In fact, as Dr. Seuss might say, I'm glad to read you anywhere! Love, Dem

Sounds like a movie we should see. You probably saw Julie & Julia, which we saw recently, and loved. similar reasons to why you like motherhood, I think. I'll become a follower as soon as I figure out how!

Steven, I loved the movie Julie & Julia, too! Actually saw Julie Powell (the author of the book)speak this spring, which was great. Thanks for following!
